Education

In this era many companies have busted out many productive game such as; EA sports, Bioware, Activision etc.
However, not very many designers get signed or hired by these big name companies. Many college students have entered hoping to be producing the next halo saga when finishing college. But, there is too much competition and most companies are already full. Even starting a new company is extremely hard and is nearly impossible.
For those who do make it there are a few tips to make it onto the teams of the top designing companies of the country. Companies look at what college a student has been to, their experience, a student's knowledge of computers, background checks. Depending on what degree a designer is after will determine the time needed to graduate and start their career. For a standard bachelor's degree four years of college level courses are required and for further degrees such as a masters degree an additional two years is required.
There are very few schools who offer a game designing course. Worcester Polytechnic Intstitute is one school which does offer the course. However, other courses can be taken to supplement game designing courses. Most schools offer computer science and computer engineering which teach the same basics that are needed in game designing. Every video game company requires each employee to understand their specific form of encrypted code : java, C++, html, etc. C++ being the most common. So study hard because the road to becoming a successful game designer is long and hard.
